I Will Rip Your Arms Off: Ieva Misevičiūtė

Co-presented with PICA as part of the Time Based Art Festival and the opening event of the 2013-14 Curator-in-Residence season.

Ieva Misevičiūtė—former Lithuanian clown, academic, and practitioner of unproductive gymnastics—presents her take on sketch comedy that lost its punch line and has been abstracted through dance and free-floating characters. The performance will be followed by a series of minute events in which we will learn that life can never be as sweet as a sponge.

Ieva Misevičiūtė, a performing artist and curator, has performed in such venues as The Kitchen, New York; dOCUMENTA(13), Kassel; de Appel art centre, Amsterdam; Center Pompidou, Paris; Contemporary Art Center, Vilnius; and Performa 09 at Swiss Institute, New York. ieva.co

Jessica Mitrani is a visual artist, writer, theater director and filmmaker. Her work has been exhibited at venues internationally, including Jeu de Paume Museum, Paris; Hors Pistes Festival at Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; Tanya Bonakdar Gallery, New York; White Columns Gallery, New York; Brooklyn Academy of Music; Museum of Modern Art Bogotá; and MACRO Museum in Rome, among others; and has been featured in numerous film festivals and programs such as Women in the Director’s Chair in Chicago; Women Make Movies in New York; in competition in the 47 Oberhaussen Short Film Festival in Germany; and broadcast on the television networks SBS in Australia and ARTE-WDR in France and Germany. She won the MK2 cinemas Grand Prix 2012 award for her video Headpieces for Peace at ASVOFF5 held at the Pompidou center this past November.
