The Writing’s on the Wall: Diane Jacobs

When will we open our minds and hearts to create an alternative to imprisonment and racial dominance?

Reaching into deep dormant places of the heart, The Writing’s On The Wall poses this question and sheds light and shadow on the root causes of crime. Our nation has not healed its slavery past. Racism manifests in our education, health care, and justice systems. Children’s handprints and camouflaged hair are clues to who suffers most. Seven million children have a parent in prison, on probation or parole. A fingerprint whorl of a poem is a cast shadow asking, How are the children? Strong lighting on the steel labyrinth throws bars on the walls and floor. The viewer becomes confined in the spiral and their shadowed silhouette becomes imprisoned.
